The calculator
How the loan calculator works
Enter the amount, the interest rate and the term, and the calculator works out the monthly repayment, the total interest and the total amount repayable on a fixed-rate loan. Use it to plan borrowing for equipment, a vehicle or working capital, and to compare offers.
For business borrowing, the right structure — loan, asset finance or an overdraft — depends on what you are funding and your cash flow. We can help you choose and model the impact.
The rate is not the cost
Two loans with the same headline rate can cost very different amounts depending on the term, the fees and how interest is charged. A longer term lowers the monthly payment and raises the total. Arrangement fees added to the balance are then charged interest themselves.
Early settlement
Regulated personal loans can generally be settled early with a capped interest charge, so repaying early saves real money. Business finance and hire purchase often work differently — some agreements front-load the interest, which means settling early saves far less than the remaining term suggests. Ask for a settlement figure rather than assuming it is the outstanding balance.
Frequently asked
What affects my monthly repayment?+
The loan amount, the interest rate and the term. A longer term lowers the monthly payment but increases the total interest paid.
Does repaying early always save money?+
On a regulated personal loan, usually yes, with the early settlement charge capped. On business finance or hire purchase it can be much less than expected, because some agreements front-load interest. Always ask for a written settlement figure before deciding.
Should I compare the rate or the total?+
The total repayable, over the term you would actually take. A lower rate over a longer period regularly costs more than a higher rate over a shorter one, and fees added to the balance attract interest of their own.
